GOODS AND SERVICES TAX

Indian Indirect Taxation regime historically comprised of excise duty levied on manufacture of goods, Service Tax levied on services and Value Added Tax levied on sale of goods. This resulted in multiple levies and compliances both at Central and State level. GST was India’s biggest Indirect Tax reform and was rolled out with effect from July 1, 2017. Since its enforcement, though the Government tried to clear air around various key aspects of law for clarity and ease of implementation, yet there are numerous unclear issues including transitional credit, classification, valuation, intermediary, input tax credit, refunds etc.
