Short Video :: Attachment of Bank Account and Blocking of Electronic Credit Ledger

by | Mar 25, 2021 | Insight

Amidst significant loss of GST revenues of the Government owing to COVID-19 pandemic, the Department has been undertaking recoveries at full throttle. Apart from conventional ways of conducting audits, seeking information, issuing demand memos etc., the Department is resorting to extreme measures like attachment of Bank Account of taxpayers, blocking their Electronic Credit Ledger (‘ECL’), cancellation or suspension of registration etc. The Department is resorting to these stringent measures in every second case and raising frivolous demands on taxpayers. In the Finance Bill 2021, the Government has proposed to expand the scope in these measures.

In this context, we are pleased to share short video by our Partner, Mr. Dharnendra Kumar Rana on Attachment of Bank Account and Blocking of ECL. In this video, Dharnendra has succinctly discussed:

  • Overview of statutory provisions under GST law;
  • Guidelines laid down by the Courts for adoption of these measures by the Department;
  • Latest amendment sought to be introduced vide Finance Bill, 2021; and
  • Way forward for taxpayers
