Recent amendments in Legal Metrology law: Casual drafting, a roadblock to eternal consumer protection!!!

In past one year, the Legal Metrology law is under spotlight, and rightly so. Various amendments are proposed / made with sole objective of easing strict compliances under this law, without making any compromise with consumer protection. Having said that, one of the biggest roadblocks in implementation of these changes is the causal drafting by legislature. While intent to do something good is always commendable but if its execution is chaotic, the eternal objective i.e., consumer protection and ease of compliance burden in this case would never be fulfilled.

In this Article, our Associate Partner, Ms. Aasmee Mangla and Senior Research Associate, Mr. Ashutosh Mishra have discussed some instances of drafting errors in recent amendments proposed / made by the Legal Metrology Department and how their literal interpretation creates a deadlock when it comes to implementation.
