On May 19, 2021, DGTR has recommended levy of anti-dumping duty on import of Phthalic Anhydride (PAN) from China, Korea, Indonesia and Thailand. PAN is an important chemical intermediate in the plastic industry.
In past, India has also imposed safeguard measure on imports of PAN from Korea pursuant to a bilateral safeguard investigation vide Customs Notification No. 44/2020-Customs dated December 18, 2020. Accordingly, ADD recommended on import from Korean will be payable after adjusting the safeguard measure already imposed.
Ministry of Finance has three months to accept / reject the recommendation of DGTR.
