India initiates anti-dumping probe on Mono Ethylene Glycol imports – International Trade Law Update #42

by | Jun 30, 2021 | Trade Law Updates

On June 28, 2021, DGTR initiated anti-dumping investigation concerning imports of Mono Ethylene Glycol (“MEG”) from Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and USA. MEG is majorly used as chemical intermediate in the production of polyester fibers, polyester films, and resins such as PET resins, which is converted into plastic bottle.

Interestingly, the Indian domestic industry applied for anti-dumping duty on MEG imports from Kuwait, Oman, Singapore, Saudi Arabia and UAE in 2019 as well. However, the investigation was terminated in 2020 as domestic industry withdrew its application.

It needs to be seen how the present investigation proceeds.

Interested parties have time till August 4, 2021 to file response before DGTR.
