International Trade Law Update #33 – Anti Dumping Investigation on Soda Ash

by | May 31, 2021 | Trade Law Updates

On May 27, 2021, India initiated an Anti-Dumping Investigation on imports of Soda Ash from Russia and UAE to determine the need to impose Anti-Dumping Duty on the aforesaid goods.

Soda Ash is an essential ingredient in the manufacture of detergents, soaps, cleaning compounds, sodium based chemicals, float glass containers, and specialty glass silicates. Additionally, it is also used in textiles, paper, metallurgical industries, and desalination plants.

Considering the recent trend, Government is not keen on extending or imposing an anti-dumping or countervailing duty on imports of Soda Ash. Hence, it will be interesting to see if the present investigations lead to the imposition of measures or not.
